If you want to build retaining walls for pools, your options are much better than they used to be a few years ago. Concrete contractors have learned how to make concrete walls that will resist freezing and thawing from the sun, rain, sleet, snow, and even the salt air. And one of the best ways to prevent moisture from accumulating in the walls is by forming a thermally broken concrete culvert. Thermally broken culverts have been found to be just as effective at containing excess moisture as traditional concrete walls. You can save more on construction costs and improve the performance of your pool by using concrete culverts. The following article provides information on what you need to know about spray concrete retaining wall systems.
There are two types of concrete walls that can be formed by spray concrete retaining wall systems-a flexible divider and an L-shaped wall. The flexible divider is installed over the ground and the top of the divider is left unaltered to the soil. A steel tube is inserted into the center of the flexible divider and is connected to a steel head pipe by a flexible steel cable. The pipe penetrates the earth about one inch inside the flexible divider so the soil just has to be sprayed over the pipe and a solid concrete curb can then be installed.
On the other hand, the L-shaped wall system consists of a rectangular box and a tapered hole in the middle of the rectangular box. When the system is installed, it is comprised of a cylindrical liner that is inserted into the hole with a small gap between the liner and the inside of the hole. The liner is sprayed with a dry mix that is resistant to water and what's more, it can also resist freezing and thawing. When high tide comes, you can simply tie up some wet mix sprayed concrete at the bottom of the hole to make the concrete slippery when high tide arrives.
Another way of installing a concrete retaining wall without tying it down is by simply digging a hole where the wall meets the soil. A temporary concrete retaining wall may be erected while the foundation is being built. You don't need to tie down any wet mix because it will not freeze. Once the foundation is built, you can use your existing concrete retaining wall to finish off the project. When the foundation is built well, it will make finishing off the project easier.
There are a couple of ways you can install a concrete retaining wall without creating a concrete retaining wall. The first way is by simply digging out an area where you want your retaining wall to be and making holes for it. Then, you can pour a wet mix that is resistant to water right into the holes. When it dries out, you will have a smooth surface. However, this is an expensive method. Also, if you have to move the retaining wall because of heavy winds, the holes may close up and you will have to dig them all over again.
The other way you can install a concrete retaining wall without much hassle is to pour a concrete mix over the area. It is mixed according to the specific needs of the project so that the concrete will stay soft and flexible. After it is poured, you just let it sit. The concrete may stiffen up as it sets but it will still be relatively soft. This will allow the concrete to be shaped as you desire.
Finally, some people prefer to build their own concrete retaining wall. They follow the procedures detailed above but they also add certain extra steps. In fact, the only difference between the two methods is the type of materials that you use for the wall. If you do not want to spend much money on buying materials for the retaining wall, you can look for a piece of lumber that will serve as a foundation for your wall or frame.
Once you get the basic foundation set up, you can start on choosing materials for the retaining wall. You can find a variety of different options at your local home improvement store. You should also check out the Internet because you will probably find a much greater selection of options there. Whatever method you choose, it is important to remember that a retaining wall is only one part of your building project.
